Helping your child in Literacy
To help your child in English:
- Listen to them read as much as you can.
- Read to them from a variety of books – stories, poems, rhymes, factual, jokes, magazines etc.
- Talk about books they have read or listened to – What was their favourite part? What do they think will happen next? What does this word mean? What did the character do and why? What have they found out about……?
- Encourage them to sound out new words they want to spell using their phonic knowledge.
- Encourage them to spell set words accurately that they have learnt.
- Encourage them to form their letters correctly.
