Early Years Foundation Stage
Welcome to Early Years at Woodthorpe C of E Primary
At Woodthorpe we have high ambitions for all our children and recognise that children have many different starting points within their learning.
Throughout our EYFS we aim to provide enjoyable and challenging activities that ensure every child makes progress in their learning at their own individual pace. Whilst we have a long-term plan, we also use observations of the children’s interests to help inform our planning. Our team members continually assess how the environment can be adapted to best cater for the ever-changing needs of each child.
At Woodthorpe, we aim for children to be well-rounded individuals who are independent, resilient and confident in themselves and with others as well as in their learning.
In order to encourage an early love of reading, we have recently adopted the ‘Core Book’ approach in our EYFS. We hope that by the time the children leave EYFS they have an in depth knowledge of twelve stories that they are able to retell. The core books are chosen for their use of repetition, story structure and potential to trigger children’s imaginations. Our Core Book list can be viewed in the document below.
The start of the 2021 academic year has been a very exciting time for the EYFS as we now have a new statutory framework. With this in mind, we are redesigning our long term, medium term and weekly plans. We have included a copy of the first draft of our new long term plans on this page so you can see the topics we have planned but, as we are still working on finalising our new curriculum, we will be adding to these throughout the year.
