Learning & Growing Together To Be The Best We Can Be
During this topic, the children have learned about historically significant people who have had a major impact on the world. Some of these include Greta Thunberg, Mary Seacole, Neil Armstrong, Emily Pankhurst and many more. They have learned how to use timelines, stories and historical sources to find out about the people featured and use historical models to explore their significance.
Some of the books we have studied include Greta and the Giants by Zoe Tucker, Little People, Big Dreams: Rosa Parks, Man on the Moon by Simon Bartrim and The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers. We have written biographies, newspaper reports, letters, posters and speeches.
In art, we researched the genre of Still Life and sketched, painted and used oil pastels to create artwork based on a variety of significant artists: Van Gough, Henry Matisse, Paul Cezanne and many more. We looked at some colour mixing and the colour wheel to learn about a variety of colours. In Design Technology, have studied the topic ‘Remarkable Recipies’ where the children have learnt about sources of food and tools used for food preparation. They also discovered why some foods are cooked and learn to read a simple recipe. The children are going to chose and make a new school meal that fulfils specific design criteria.

In science we are looking at Habitats, and in December all of Key Stage 1 are visiting Sherwood Pines to explore these further. We are so excited about our school trip and are looking forward to getting on our wellies and exploring wildlife. Please contact the school office or Miss May if you are a parent with any further questions on the trip.
